Back to Back Back to Back brings together Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen with Acker and his Band. Since starting in 2005 every concert has been a sell out.
For more than forty years Kenny Ball has flown the flag for his particular brand of traditional jazz all over the world. It is a tribute to his stamina and musical integrity that Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen are as popular today as they were back in 1960 when they had their first chart hit with Samantha. Today, mention the name Kenny Ball and everyone knows who he is. He is identified with great jazz but also wonderful entertainment, for Kenny, like Louis Armstrong, believes in making jazz attractive to the general public.
Acker Bilk formed the_Bristol Paramount Jazz Band and in 1961 recorded Stranger On The Shore, which became the theme tune for a TV series. This was believed to be the first-ever recording to be Number One simultaneously in the UK and USA charts. Over the years Acker varies his recording and guests with other prominent jazz and rock musicians such as Humphrey Lyttelton, Van Morrison and Papa Bue. Now in his 70s, Acker lives in his beloved Somerset countryside He still performs regularly with his Paramount Jazz Band. Although Acker will always be synonymous with the famous Bowler hat and waistcoat, Acker is a serious and dedicated musician, and exceptionally professional.
